Hi guyssss how is your week so far? I am SO ready for the weekend haha. I un-officially started a series on my blog called ‘Fashion Trend Hacks’ where I share with you different styling techniques that will help keep your look super up to date within the seasonal trends. My last post I shared how you can wear your dress as a top, if you missed it check it out here. The reason it was un-official is because that first fashion trend hack happened to be on Easter post! Haha So for today’s styling tip we’re talking about layers and I’m not talking about layering on 8 hoodies and calling it a day; though that would be cool haha For this styling technique you want to add a third element into your outfit. You may already do this or maybe this is your first time hearing it but a third layer really elevates your look; especially when working with basics. What’s great about this look I’m sharing is that you’ve literally seen every single element of this outfit in totally separate looks in previous blog posts. So what are these ‘elements’ I’m talking about? Think: a scarf as a chunky bracelet when you pair a tee + shorts,¬† think: a denim jacket around your hips when you wear high waist jeans and a bodysuit, think: a dress with a knotted tank/top over it, think: a cami over a contrasting shirt like I did in my look.

I wanted the pants to be the main focus as far as color went, but I still wanted to do some layering and not let it hide behind the beauty of the pants haha¬† The key is to have your third element be contrasting to basic piece. If I would’ve layering a cami that was white + black horizontal stripes then sure it’s cute’ but it gets lost and I lose that third element of layering. (of course this doesn’t apply if you’re going for a monochromatic look, in that case stripe along baby!) During spring and summer it’s a little more difficult to layer up because normally we do this during fall and winter haha but let’s see in what ways we layer up for this season!

Below I’ve put together three outfits that are simple and far from boring!

First look: Graphic tee + Distressed Jeans + Fishnets + Mule Sandal

This is probably the easiest but put together look I’ve made in a while! I’m sure you guys have seen the fishnet trend all over instagram and pinterest. For this season fishnet are such a fun way to incorporate¬† that third element. I love these slides and I picked yellow because (well color of the summer) and if you’re wearing this on a Monday then you’re just starting your week off as a ball of sunshine!

Second look: OFS dress + waist belt + neck scarf with pattern + textured shoes

Can we please talk about how badd-ass this look is? Idk about you but I need to head over to NYC or Milan for the weekend juuust to wear this outfit. Gingham has been everywhere lately (still finding the perfect gingham piece to add to my wardrobe) and also mixing patterns; hence the stripped scarf. HA! This whole look is based on trends, remember waist shapers becoming a thing? Well here you have it as a belt option + these ruffled shoes? Your simple dress + loafers look got way more exciting by adding the belt and scarf combo! Throw a cropped leather jacket on a make a night time look!

Third Look: Wrap Top + Cropped Cami + Printed Culottes + Block Heel

This is the most fun look for sure! This one is so simple to make trendy, are you ready? Layer that cropped cami oveeer the wrapped top instead of inside. I picked this cropped cami because (1) it pulls out the coral in the pants and (2) because of the length it should fall right above the wrap of the white top. You see? Simple tricks like this can elevate your basic looks in just 1,2, and 3.
