Hi friends! Today’s post is so exciting for me and different because there are no photos of me, ha! Well, technically there are but we will get there soon. For now let’s get into holiday mode! We all have those special moments that occur during the holidays. Most of the time we want to find the fastest way to share them.
In today’s world it’s become so easy to upload and share a photo on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or wherever you decide to post it. Listen, there is nothing wrong with that. I do that all the time! There are just some moments better shared through print, a card, and even a letter.
Do you remember when you were younger (or maybe you still do it today) and the holidays came around and everyone got a cute outfit and planned out a family day to take ‘THE’ family photo to send out during the holidays? Well, with basic invite I custom created my family Christmas card! I wish I could say it took me about 30 seconds but it took me forever because there are so many options and I couldn’t decide which design to go with! There are endless font color options, envelope design options, font styles, and added features. Check out more invitation to Christmas party ideas here.
If you are a stationary lover like I am then creating your custom Christmas card is going to feel like heaven. I ended up going with this design, you can find the exact one following this link. You can leave it as is and upload your photo like I did! This design was perfect because I loved how it looked and felt great about leaving it as it came designed. The best (and almost sad) part about this card is that I had to use a photo that we took LAST year to create a card for this year. So, lesson number one: taking the time to create a custom family card may actually be a good thing. It will become a great excuse to have a family day!! So important.
Sharing that yearly family photo with loved ones is a must and such a great idea but why stop there? This year my sweet mommy turns the big 40! WHAT. Yes. I know, I’m 23 (getting married, woot) and my sister, I mean, my mom is super young. I had to share that piece of information because she’ll love me for it. With that being said I decided to create a custom birthday invite!
What better way to share with your family and friends all the ways you may be feeling about turning 40. Absolute excitement, a little anxiety, and maybe a little fear. A birthday also serves as a reminder of what blessing it is to get a brand new year to look forward to. I felt like using this design helped create such a fun card that helped to illustrate all of mom’s ‘I’m turning 40’ faces.
How did I do mom? Also, for this one mom and turned it into a girls day where I styled her and did her makeup to create this card. I think we totally made up for not having a current photo to use for our family card. Right? Check out holiday work party invitations here.
This next and final card is another special moment that actually happened LAST holiday season. Nick and I’s engagement! WOOHOO! I remember about two years ago our Christmas photo involved posing our feet by the tree because we had cute holiday socks! Now this year we get to celebrate the holidays and the fact that we’ll be married in a couple of months! I love that for this card I got to insert a photo in the actual envelope. HOW COOL IS THAT? I figured it would be a sentimental touch to have a photo of our engagement pop up as soon as you open the envelope. This way our family and friends get to re-live that moment with us!
Speaking of re-living the moment I asked you on Instagram if I should share our engagement story. I thought I had it all figured out. I was ready. I don’t think you are so, here is the back story.
Our dating anniversary is December 08 so on that day, last year, nick surprised me with a trip. I remember waking up and him saying ‘Ok! Let’s pack! We’ve got to go!’ I thought: OH GIRL. IT’S GOING DOWN. I EVEN GOT A MANICURE!! We headed to Orlando and all I knew was that at night we were going to a special destination. On our way this ‘destination’ my dad called nick and said something like ‘oh did you do it?!’ (I mean right? All of the signs!) I’m freaking out.
Nick quickly took the phone off speaker and made sure to end the conversation so I didn’t hear anymore. I’m anxious you guys. What is happening. We actually ended up going to see The Nutcracker in Ballet. My favorite and first ballet. I loved it! It was such a sweet and sentimental gift. After we had sushi back at the hotel and it was my favorite meal with him till this day.
Obviously I did not get proposed to that night. A week later I had an idea to go on a picnic date so we could look through our memory box.
• memory box – wooden box that Nick built me a month after becoming my boyfriend because he quickly realized my obsession with stationary and keeping memories that this box was now my new place to hold every memory we share together. Safe to say almost four years later…I need a new one LOL.
December 15th began like a normal day. I woke up, threw on comfy clothes (a rare thing for me), no makeup (Thank God for sunglasses) and packed our picnic bag along with our memory box. I remember sitting at the park having our snacks, drinking wine and just laughing and enjoying all the memories we had shared so far. Then all of a sudden Nick reaches in to get a small little box. From here on out it’s kind of a blur haha. I’m going to paraphrase here (sorry babe) but nick said something like:
‘’I made you this box to keep all of our memories from these past three years and now I’ve made you another box that will hold a new memory.’’
HE STANDS ON ONE KNEE. Technically this is correct since we were sitting down, he had to get up on the knee.
WILL YOU MARRY ME?
I immediately began to cry and yelled his name! As I’m crying I’m like OH YES. OF COURSE. OF COURSE I WILL MARRY YOU! *continues crying*
I will forever cherish our story because it happened so organically, so perfect, so ‘us’. I was completely surprised by it. Particularly because the picnic was my idea! Have you ever met two humans so in sync with one another? Well, if you haven’t nice to meet you; that would be Nick and I.
Good thing I still had my manicure a week later.
I remember as we hugged Molly (Nick’s beagle) started walking away from us into the bushes. I told Nick ‘no worries I’m just watching Molly’ and he says “well just got ahead and wave to Anthony”. Molly was walking over to Antony who was hiding in the bushes capturing everything! See photos here:
So! That’s our story. I may have missed some details but you’ll have to ask Nick for the guys perspective on it! Haha. I love that Basic Invite has a feature where you get to include a photo inside the envelope. That photo is the exact moment when he asked me to marry him (he was crying by the way lol). I’m so happy I got to this this project because like I said in the beginning we get so accustomed to taking photos on our phones and sharing those moments right away that sometimes it takes away the magic.
Anything that you can turn from digital to tangible is so special. It can be a card, letter, invitation, an announcement, or simply anything that can bring a sweet memory from your heart to a loved ones hands.
A huge shout out to Basic Invite for partnering up with me on my first holiday post and for giving me an outlet to share my special holiday moments with you guys. I can’t wait to do more.
